Anthropic Has Built Something It Says Is Its Most Powerful Model Ever

The AI arms race just shifted up a gear. And if you are a business owner paying attention to where this technology is heading, the latest development from Anthropic deserves more than a passing glance.

Anthropic, the AI safety company behind Claude, has quietly unveiled a preview of what it describes as its most powerful model to date. Known internally as Mythos, the model is not being released to the public yet. Instead, it has been handed to a select group of twelve partner organisations for a very specific purpose: finding and fixing critical vulnerabilities in software infrastructure before bad actors can exploit them.

The partners include some of the most recognisable names in global technology. Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Broadcom, and the Linux Foundation are among those currently putting Mythos through its paces as part of a new initiative Anthropic is calling Project Glasswing.

Why This Matters Beyond the Headlines

On the surface, this looks like a cybersecurity story. Powerful AI finds bugs in software. Patches get deployed. Critical infrastructure becomes safer. That is all true, and it is genuinely significant.

But the deeper story here is about capability. Mythos has reportedly identified thousands of previously unknown zero-day vulnerabilities in recent weeks, many of them sitting undetected in systems for one to two decades. That is not an incremental improvement on existing AI models. That is a different category of performance entirely.

Anthropic's own internal documents, which were inadvertently leaked before this announcement, described Mythos as being in a tier above its current Opus models, which until now represented the company's highest performance tier. The documents described it as its most powerful model ever developed, with exceptional capabilities in software coding, academic reasoning, and cybersecurity tasks.

    The Double-Edged Reality

Here is the part that business owners and operators need to think carefully about. The same capability that makes Mythos extraordinary for finding and fixing vulnerabilities also makes it potentially dangerous if accessed and weaponised by the wrong people. Anthropic acknowledged this directly, noting that the model could theoretically be used to discover and exploit bugs rather than repair them.

This is not a hypothetical concern. It is why the rollout is being handled with unusual caution and why access is being tightly controlled through verified partner organisations rather than a standard public release.

The lesson for businesses is this: AI capability is growing faster than most organisations' ability to understand or manage it. The gap between those who are building security and operational resilience into their AI strategy now, and those who are waiting to see how things develop, is widening every month.

What This Means for Your Business

You do not need to be running critical infrastructure to care about this. What Mythos represents is a broader signal about the trajectory of AI capability in 2026 and beyond.

First, AI is moving from assistant to autonomous agent. Mythos is not a chatbot. It is a system that can independently scan millions of lines of code, identify complex multi-layered vulnerabilities, and flag them for human review. That same agentic capability is being applied across business functions right now, from sales pipelines and customer service to operations and content production.

Second, the organisations engaging with this technology seriously, at the level of Amazon and Microsoft, are not experimenting. They are integrating. The gap between enterprise AI adoption and SME AI adoption is significant and growing.

Third, the risks are real but manageable. The concern about AI being weaponised is legitimate. But the answer is not to avoid AI. It is to work with partners who understand it, deploy it responsibly, and build systems designed with security and accountability from the ground up.

    The Takeaway

Anthropic's Mythos announcement is a reminder that AI is not slowing down. It is accelerating. The capability that was considered frontier six months ago is being superseded by something considerably more powerful, and that cycle is not going to pause while businesses catch up.

The question is not whether AI will affect your business. It already is. The question is whether you are shaping that impact deliberately or simply absorbing it by default.

If you are still trying to work out where AI fits in your business, or you have started experimenting but are not seeing meaningful results, that is exactly the conversation we have every day with businesses like yours.
